llyrelOh hai everyone! Been a while since the last time I posted anything here, huh? :D
Mini re-introduction in case you're seeing this post popping in your reading page and wondering who the heck this is: name's Llyrel, I'm a webcomic artist and I made this account back in 2021 when Pillowfort temporarily died. Was originally planning to use this blog for webcomic reviews, reading wrap ups and general blogging. My blogging experiences consisted in a grand total of five (5) posts and... that was it, basically. Pillowfort eventually came back to life and I gotta admit that I kinda left DW behind. But! Since lately I've been growing a little tired of most popular social media platforms and I've been looking into recreating some of that "old Internet experience", figured I might as well give DW another try. thefridayfive last year hoping to do some of their prompts eventually, soooo... figured I might as well (re)start from these :D
October 14th prompts
1. How many languages do you speak?
Mainly two: Italian and English. I studied French in middle school and can still understand it pretty well, but my writing and speaking skills are not very good. I also studied Germanic Languages for about a year and a half in University, where I got to learn some Swedish. Attempted German and Finnish at some point, but kinda gave up because of the grammar ;_; Lately, I've been experimenting with the Chinese language courses on Duolingo and Hello Chinese, but I'm still very much a beginner.
I can understand written Spanish and Portuguese fairly easily due to their similarities with Italian, but please do not ask me to write or speak them because I'd have absolutely no idea where to start XD
2. What is your mother tongue?
Italian!
3. What is a language that you would like to learn and why?
I'd STILL like to learn German. I've always loved Germanic languages, I find German interesting because it's the language spoken in not one, but two of our neighboring countries and also because I love a good challenge. Plus, some bands I like, such as Rammstein, Lacrimosa and Diary of Dreams have songs in German and I'd love to be able to translate them without having to rely on translation websites :D speaking of challenges, I'd love, love, love to get back to Finnish too, but oh boy, finding good resources (especially exercise books) is so hard D: if you happen to have any suggestions, please throw them at me! :D
4. Does it bother you when people speak a language you don't know in front of you? Why or why not?
Not really, unless, like... they're doing it to be assholes on purpose (e.g. taking advantage of the fact that I can't understand the language to make nasty comments). Happened once (visited a different region in my country, the locals would randomly switch to their dialect and start gossiping, taking advantage of the fact that I couldn't understand a word), wasn't the nicest feeling of them all.
5. Speak to me.
ä½ å¥½, mi chiamo Llyrel, j'ai 33 ans et j'habite en Italie. I speak English, italiano, français och lite svenska :'D
