Oh hai everyone! Been a while since the last time I posted anything here, huh? :D

Mini re-introduction in case you're seeing this post popping in your reading page and wondering who the heck this is: name's Llyrel, I'm a webcomic artist and I made this account back in 2021 when Pillowfort temporarily died. Was originally planning to use this blog for webcomic reviews, reading wrap ups and general blogging. My blogging experiences consisted in a grand total of five (5) posts and... that was it, basically. Pillowfort eventually came back to life and I gotta admit that I kinda left DW behind. But! Since lately I've been growing a little tired of most popular social media platforms and I've been looking into recreating some of that "old Internet experience", figured I might as well give DW another try. I started to follow [community profile] thefridayfive last year hoping to do some of their prompts eventually, soooo... figured I might as well (re)start from these :D

Aaaand... two weeks later we're back! :D
Today I bring you another webcomic recommendation: The Calamitous Misadventures of Osker!

Summary (copy-pasted from the site): In his quiet, solitary life, the most exciting thing Osker does day to day is forage for mushrooms outside his secluded village. When he encounters an unlikely visitor and meets the very eccentric shaman, Ryka, he is thrown into a world of calamity, misadventure, and chaos. CMAO is a sci-fi/fantasy and action-adventure story of a futuristic Earth that was ravaged by a cataclysm, and the strange life forms that prospered after.

Warnings: violence, blood, body horror

Why I love it: I discovered The Calamitous Misadventures of Osker on a read for read thread over at the Tapas forums and instantly fell in love with it! :D The comic takes you right into action from the very first pages, and although it later turns out that what we’re seeing is not exactly what is seems, it does an amazing job at establishing the key points of the series, the first one being… don’t take anything for granted :D what looks like your typical epic battle against an evil monster in your typical high fantasy setting quickly takes an  unexpected turn as soon as we get to meet the hero of our story. I’m not gonna spoil you anything, but let me tell you: Osker is NOT your typical sci-fi/fantasy hero and I absolutely LOVE him for that. The character design in this series is absolutely amazing: everyone has a distinctive look that makes them instantly recognizable and super expressive… including those who don’t even HAVE a face. That’s just one of the many things that make CMAO an absolute treat to read. The humor is great, the story is intriguing, the characters are compelling… seriously, why this comic doesn’t have hundreds of subscribers already is still a mystery to me. So please, go give it a read :D

Recommended if you like: sci-fi/fantasy stories that don’t take themselves too seriously, gorgeous sceneries, subverted expectations and great character design.

Yet another one of those things I would have always loved to do on Pillowfort and kept procrastinating, lol.

Soooo... as already mentioned in my intro post, I make a webcomic. And I read quite a bunch of them, too! I'm still kinda new to the whole webcomics scene, so I'm far from being an expert, but of course in the few months I've been at this I got to find quite a bunch of gems.
The idea is to pick one of the webcomics I follow/like and talk a bit about it, listing things I like and where you can find it.

The first one would be... Krazy Noodle Massacre by Lutzbug over at ComicFury :D

Here's a little something I've been wanting to do on Pillowfort for ages and never got around to.
Reading wrap up!

Basically, just a list of books I read and/or that I'm reading, together with a short comment (maybe; or maybe not XD depends on how inspired I'm feeling on that day, lol). Like the last two years or so, I'm also taking part to the 2021 Goodreads Reading Challenge, so this is also gonna be a fun way to keep track of books I read. As usual, I started with a fairly low goal (5 books), but I do plan to raise it throughout the year if things go well :D now, on to the wrap up!

So, huh... hi everyone :D

I'm Llyrel, a 30-something years old illustrator, graphic designer and comic artist based in Europe. My main online home has been Pillowfort for the last year or so, however, given that the site has been going through a bunch of issues in the last few weeks and that I have no intention to crawl back into that hellhole that is known as Tumblr, I decided to make an account on here. Still not sure what I'm going to use this place for: I've been on DW for quite some time under a different name and I know that it doesn't offer a whole lot of upload space for image hosting, so I guess I'll probably stick to text posts, OC memes and stuff like that? °° We'll see, lol. In the meantime, here are some places where you can find me!
